Social media design example for housing advocacy by 180 Degrees Consulting
This spring, a group of students from various marketing, design, social science and management disciplines conducted a study of ways that Housing Assistance could use social media to engage more voters, ages 18-35, to participate in local town meetings. The group is a branch of 180 Degrees Consulting, the world’s largest university-based consultancy with 100 branches in universities around the globe. They provide high quality consulting services for nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and socially-minded corporations.
Their research identified Instagram as the most-used platform by younger audiences for engagement around social issues, and the team created and tested a number of design-concept strategies to better utilize the platform, including shorter action-oriented posts and more sleek, modern design. Housing Assistance implemented many of these strategies already, and we are looking forward to continued input and engagement from younger audiences, who need more affordable housing in order to make our community their home.
