Volunteers are needed in three areas at HAC’s family and individual shelters.
Childcare assistants: Our Hyannis, Falmouth, and Cataumet shelters seek volunteers to help with childcare on weekday mornings (preferred), or early afternoons. Volunteers can pick one or more of these timeslots, but should be able to commit to a regular, weekly schedule (for example, every Wednesday morning). Volunteers should have childcare experience, enjoy working with kids of varying ages, and feel comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with families in crisis. All volunteers must undergo a background check (CORI).
Van drivers: Drivers are needed both weekdays and on weekends to transport residents from our family shelters to medical appointments and other essential errands. Our family shelters are located in Hyannis, Falmouth and Bourne. Drivers will use our agency van (an automatic seating 7 persons). Volunteers should have a flexible schedule, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, and feel comfortable working with families in crisis. All volunteers must undergo a background check (CORI).
Shelter assistants: Help provide staff and client support at our Bourne family shelter. Duties include office tasks such as copying, filing, and preparing mailings; providing phone and front desk coverage during staff meetings; assisting clients in routine, daily matters and/or driving clients to appointments. Volunteers in this position work a half-day on a regular, weekly basis (ex: 8 a.m.-noon Thursdays). Volunteers should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, enjoy doing a variety of tasks from day to day, and feel comfortable working with families in crisis. All volunteers must undergo a background check (CORI).
Volunteer Coffee Hour: Wednesday, February 6 at 10 a.m. Kick off 2013 by learning more about HAC and how you can get involved. This monthly event is brief overview of what the organization does, who we serve, and what volunteer opportunities are currently available. Feel free to show up or RSVP to Mary Everett-Patriquin at 508-771-5400, ext. 279. The group will meet at HAC’s Main Office, 460 W. Main St., Hyannis.
